The Skinny

The Ruvalino Backpack is an excellent choice for parents who want a unisex diaper bag that won't break the bank. The large interior easily accommodates enough supplies for both mom and baby with room to spare. On the inside, you will find a variety of zippered pockets, elastic pouches, mesh dividers, and more. While it has some great features, we found that the quality of the Ruvalino is not on par with some of the other diaper bags we tested and it may be best used as a temporary or secondary option. If you are looking for a unisex diaper bag for short-term use, and are not as worried about quality, then the Ruvalino is a great choice.

The Ruavalino is a great bag for parents who are on a tight budget. It is a large capacity backpack-style diaper bag that has so many pockets you will find yourself looking for more items just to fill them all. We like the gender-neutral design of the bag and the well-padded backpack straps are comfortable enough for mom or dad to carry for a full day. If you prefer not to carry the bag on your back, there are tote handles located on the top. However, the backpack straps do not tuck away and are not removable, so they may get in the way if you prefer to use the tote handles frequently.

The bag has three main compartments with a variety of convenient features found in each one. Elastic straps, insulated pockets, and mesh pouches can be found in abundance, providing effortless organization for all of your essentials. One compartment unzips all the way to the bottom for a suitcase-style opening that we love. It allows you to easily reach items at the bottom of the bag without having to dig through a mess of burp cloths, diapers, and baby toys. Other compartments only have a partial zip that makes them more difficult to access, but also keeps things more secure.

A water bottle pocket can be found on each side of the bag, and the elastic around the top was stretchy enough to accommodate our 18oz bottle, but anything wider might not fit. There are two insulated pockets in the main compartment of the bag to keep formula or breastmilk cool for a few hours.

Dislikes

The Ruvalino has a large capacity with lots of great storage options, but due to the flimsiness of the construction, you may not be able to take full advantage of the space. Many users reported issues with the zippers busting open during use, especially when the bag is filled to the max. While this did not happen during our tests, we do agree that the zippers feel rather flimsy and do not glide as smoothly as other bags we have used. We had to use two hands most of the time.

The lower quality of the bag also shows in its lack of structure. When you load up with heavier items, the Ruvalino does not keep its shape very well and can start to sag. After heavy use, it begins to look frumpy and show signs of wear. We did not have any problems with the stitching unraveling, but the craftsmanship does not look as clean and we found a few loose threads throughout.

Conclusion

The Ruvalino diaper bag is a multifunctional backpack that has adequate storage and organization for all your baby supplies and will blend in with your everyday life. While the lower quality of the bag means that it may not be around for years, we think it is a good choice for parents who are on a strict budget but don't want to sacrifice style and convenience.
