The Skinny

The Skip Hop Pronto is a compact changing station with enough space for diapers and supplies for short outings. Two zippered pockets and one mesh pouch hold the essentials, while two carry methods make it easy to transport. The extra-large changing pad is easy to wipe down, and when you're done changing your baby, the whole thing wraps into a tight package that easily fits into a purse, stroller basket, or backpack. We love the features of this diaper bag alternative and think it is perfect for any minimalist parent frequently on the go.

Our Analysis and Test Results

In 2003, parents Michael and Ellen Diamant were searching for a diaper bag that suited their needs as new parents. They were not having any luck and decided to create their own product instead. The debut diaper bag was the Skip Hop Duo, and the company has since branched out into bag different styles and now includes other baby gear items as well.

The Skip Hop Pronto is a clutch-style changing station that we love for minimalist moms and babies on the go. With it, you can change your baby just about anywhere (because not all public bathrooms are baby-friendly). When closed, its dimensions are 12"W x 8"H x 3"D, which is small enough to fit into most bags and purses. Alternatively, the changing station has a carry handle and a clip that can be strapped to your wrist or stroller if you'd rather use it as a standalone bag.

The small package unrolls to reveal 2 inner pockets and a spacious, removable changing pad. There's even a cushion (the "pronto pillow") at the head area to make it more comfortable for your baby. The Skip Hop has a zippered pocket on the outside for quick access items and a small included wipe case allows you to pack light. During testing, we were able to fit 4 diapers, a case full of wipes, one burp cloth, a bib, a pacifier, a toy, and a small bottle of hand sanitizer into the pockets. This is a perfect amount of supplies for a short afternoon outing, and with a squeeze, we could fit a few extra items such as keys, money, a cell phone, or an extra baby onesie.

We love that this pack is extremely easy to travel with and keep clean. The polyester material is easy to wipe down and is free of phthalates. At 21.5" wide and 22.5" long, the removable changing pad is larger than most of the competition's included pads.

Dislikes

The compact size of this bag is one of its biggest draws. However, it can also be a big drawback. You'll need to remember to restock the bag after every outing, unlike a regular diaper bag where you might go a few trips before running out of supplies. We also do not like that the wipe case does not seal tightly, allowing constant airflow to quickly dry out wipes. However, the container is small enough that we think you'll likely use the wipes before this happens.

If you like to be prepared for every possible scenario, the Pronto probably isn't the right bag for you. It is highly functional but only holds the essentials and no more. If you use cloth diapers, you may have an even bigger problem, as the changing station only fits 1 cloth diaper comfortably and does not offer a good place to store dirty diapers.

Conclusion

If you like to travel light with your baby, you will love the Skip Hop Pronto. Holding only the essentials, and not taking up any more space than is necessary, this changing station has got you and your baby covered. With different patterns, it can blend well with most styles and be gender-neutral for mom and dad. We think that if you can only carry one compact item for your baby while out running errands or a meal, the Skip Hop Pronto Changing Station is it.
