Our Analysis and Test Results
The Munchkin brand was founded in 1990 in Los Angeles, California. It now has six offices worldwide and is dedicated to making trusted, effective baby products. In recent years, it has taken a strong stand for the environment, diverting 85% of its warehouse waste from landfills, being accepted into the United Nations Global Impact Initiative, and, in 2022, ensuring that 100% of its packaging was safe for the animal planet. Forbes also named it the 8th most innovative company in 2023.
Performance Comparison
Ease of Use
The Munchkin 360 works well under pressure. It is simple and easy to use. The baby slides easily in and out, and the seating is comfortable and secure since the leg restraints are attached to the chair and not the tray.
The tray itself is intuitive, and the clamps holding it to the armrests work well and without fussing. We like that both tray components can go in the dishwasher, and the separate cup holder slot helps prevent spills or sequester rogue blueberries.
The spinning feature is nice and works smoothly, but we wonder how much it would get used, as we found that the majority of the time, we needed to move the entire chair, if at all, rather than just needing to spin the seat around. Perhaps in a smaller space this feature would be helpful. On the downside, the five-point buckle system left much to be desired, as it didn't attach to the chair at the shoulder. To use, one must dig the straps out from under the baby, untangle them, and then loop them over the baby's shoulders.
Ease of Cleaning
The Cloud chair is easy to clean. The cushion is removed quickly and can be thrown in the wash.
It is waterproof, and the almost plastic-feeling fabric also means that it's easy to wipe down in lieu of a wash. The chair itself, made of a smooth, clear fabric, is also easy to wipe down. The tray and insert can be thrown in the dishwasher, and the remaining components are also easy to wipe down. However, the armrests have several slots where the tray slides in, which could potentially catch food. This, however, is not a dealbreaker, as many high chairs have this same issue.
Quality
The wooden legs of the Cloud are very sturdy and feel made of quality components.
The footrest can hold a great deal of weight, and the unit overall feels high quality. However, the harness was made of a slightly thinner webbing than its counterparts, and we wonder about the cushion's longevity due to its somewhat plastic-coated feel.
Ease of Set Up
This chair comes out of the box, essentially ready to use, with minimal setup. What is required is easy to follow with the included paperwork.
Footprint and Portability
The Munchkin 360 is not the most portable in the lineup.
It does not fold smaller and is not designed to be moved around much, aside from the spinning seat, meaning it can easily face another direction without moving the entire chair. It also has a wider footprint, but the added benefit is that you don't have to worry about tipping even with a five-year-old standing on the footrest and jumping up and down.
Should You Buy the Munchkin 360° Cloud?
This is a great option if you want a chair made of high-quality materials that will look great in your home and be easy to clean. However, if features or functionality are more important to you than the chair's appearance, other options could better suit your needs.
What Other High Chair Should You Consider?
The Abiie Beyond Wooden High Chair is a versatile, aesthetically pleasing chair that has the same price but additional features, such as a footrest that adjusts to a baby's height. This high-quality wooden chair can easily be converted to a toddler chair or one for older children. We love the idea of a wood chair being handed down from one generation to the next, and the Abiie might be able to do just that.
