Our Analysis and Test Results
PopYum is relatively new to the bottle market and was created by parents who saw a need and worked to fill it. This neat bottle changes the formula feeding game adding an aspect of freedom and convenience to a previously cumbersome activity. The PopYum is more user-friendly than other bottles of the same ilk and could be a formula-fed baby's best friend.
The PopYum is made to simplify formula feeding by giving parents the ability to premake baby's bottles for days away from home. Usually, you have two choices when going out with baby: Premix a bottle and keep it in a cooler with an ice pack, or lug around multiple containers and scoops and so you can mix the formula as needed. Either way, you are filling your diaper bag with extra items that you'd rather not have around. The PopYum lets you leave the house with only a bottle in tow. The formula is stored in the nipple and sealed off with a disk that doubles as an agitator when mixing, while the water is stored in the bottom of the bottle. With the squeeze of two buttons and some shaking, you can have food ready in seconds.
The volume markings are easy to read, and since the formula is stored up top, they remain accurate even after mixing. The wide shape of this bottle allows for easy cleaning and creates a nipple mound that is broad and breastlike. This bottle is thoughtfully designed so that all the parts fit together well, with no leaks, and are all easy to clean. We love that the entire mixing operation can be completed with one hand, leaving the other hand free to soothe baby.
The convenience of this bottle comes at a price with several pieces to keep track of and clean. We would be most worried about losing the agitator/sealing part. Still, users have nothing but positive experiences with the manufacturer, and PopYum is usually happy to replace any missing pieces. Unfortunately, there is no lock for the release buttons, which means that the buttons could be inadvertently pressed, releasing the formula to mix with the water before you are ready.
It is also primarily plastic, and while this does have the benefit of being lighter and durable, we aren't fans of food and plastic when it's not absolutely necessary. There is an included funnel that we recommend using when pouring formula powder into the vessel, as we find that any formula granules on the silicone make it challenging to obtain a good seal, creating the potential for leaks.
The PopYum is a unique bottle that fills a particular niche, and we think it could be a lifesaver for families with busy schedules. Many parents choose to use this bottle for more than just daily outings, and it can come in handy for everything from plane rides to daycare to late-night feedings. If your baby drinks formula, even if it is not your primary bottle, we think it is worth having one or two of these hanging around. You can thank us later.
