The Skinny

The MAM is a squat little bottle that we found to be complicated and leaky. Another bottle that unscrews from both the top and the bottom, getting it all back together again was a chore. It has a soft, rubber anti-colic valve that we got tired of fiddling with; it's only saving grace is that it is self-sterilizing in the microwave.

For us, the MAM was a leaker. It's prone to leakage if not assembled just right, leaked in travel, and had leaked everywhere when we found our little tester had dropped it in her high chair. It has a flat shaped nipple that was overly soft and collapsed during feeding. We had to unscrew the bottle to let the air escape.

Likes

It's ability to self-sterilize in the microwave.

Wide mouth made filling easy.

Dislikes

Did we mention the leaking?! Plus an odd shaped, collapsing nipple that our baby just didn't go for.

Conclusion

Based on our testing, we found the MAM to be one of our least favorite bottles. If you're looking for a specially shaped or tooth-friendly nipple, we say try the NUK Orthodontic.

I agree with the other commenters that I was really surprised to see this reviewed so low. This bottle has been a life saver for me. I have breastfed my daughter for 5 months and have recently been looking to switch to formula due to her food intolerances and slow weight gain. Because I wasn't regularly giving her bottles as a breastfeeding mama, she will not take any bottles for me except this one! Beyond the fact that she takes this bottle exceptionally better than others (Dr. Brown, Tommy Tippee, Kiinde, medela) I am impressed with the overall function of this bottle for the following reasons.
  1. The nipple. I'd say at least half the moms I know use Mam Pacifiers and this nipple is the same shape as the pacifiers. My daughter seems to be comforted by this shape and the familiarity. Most breastfeeding moms start a pacifier before a bottle so this comfort is great. I also like that there are 4 different nipple speeds vs the typical 3. Lastly, this nipple feels softer, more skin like than any others.
  1. Anti-colic vent. This design is smart and works well. My daughter is far less gassy with these bottles than Tommy Tippee. Although Dr. Browns has a decent vent, I find cleaning it more difficult than this bottle and they work about the same. Also, the Tommy Tippee vent has to be pointed toward the nose to be most effective - how can I do that in the middle of the night?
  1. Self Sterilizing. This is huge. Time is money, especially when you have a hungry baby. Also, this is much easier and more convenient than using a sterilizing bag.
  1. Cost effective. Sorry, but I'd pick the price of this bottle over a Como tomo but that's just my financial situation.
  1. Doesn't leak. honestly, it just doesn't.

Cons:
  1. The design isn't exactly sleek. But also that's not huge on my list of "must haves"
  1. Not the best availability. Target doesn't sell these and that's my main store. But I did find them at wal mart and obviously amazon. It's cheaper there anyway.

Lastly, I would question who is reviewing these and what is there criteria? This says that their baby didn't like it which is fine. I have the same feeling about bottles my girl didn't love but at the same time, I don't think having one baby try a bottle makes for a very helpful review for other moms. Just a thought!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

This review kindly upset me. Honestly the Mam bottle was a life saver for me. Te unique nipple design made bottle to sippy transition a breeze! My baby who was premature latched wonderfully! And ha no problems feeding. Leaks were never a problem once we learned to tightly and straight my screw on the bottom piece. Testing with water. I literally could hear air leaving my babies bottle and my colic problems left too! Also NEVER had a nipple collapse on me one reason I switched to a vented bottle! The only down fall was the rubber insert really doesn't ever loose that formula smell after a while. But I still love them!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.

I was really surprised to read this review about the MAM bottle.

I'm french and here it's considered like one very good bottle, especially for breastfed babies.

I have already read about leaking with this bottle, but within 7 years of use I have never encountered this inconvenient although we have bought around 20 of them.

We have try many baby bottles since she didn't accept easily anything else than the breast, and I have found that the round shaped nipple (and in most case hard or firm nipple) is the issue, like avent, tommee tippee and more.

With other bottles she couldn't latch, she was drinking at best half of what she needed and it was so long she fell asleep while doing it. (She hasn't a very good latch, but she breastfed without issue, it's while bottle fed that she encountered difficulties)

The almost flat nipple of MAM bottle has been immediately accepted by our daughter since in fact it is what looks the most like the human nipple when the baby has it in mouth, with the slow nipple nothing leaks (even down under) unless baby latch.

About this we were completely satisfied with the bottle.

The real inconvenient of the bottle is the difficulty to clean the bottom, the joint especially, and with use the plastic of the bottle become hard to clean.

But since it's quite cheap, we just buy an other when its surface is too damaged to clean well.

We are expecting an other little girl for june, so i'm looking around to see what's new in baby bottles that we could try, and I think we'll try COMOTOMO since the nipple of this one is also soft.

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
