The Skinny

The PureGuardian H1250 is an ultrasonic humidifier with a digital user interface that allows users to program humidity levels and control other features. This unit is fairly intuitive with useful icons and straightforward buttons. It has an easy to use design but is somewhat hard to clean with a tank that is difficult to reach into and a few smaller spaces around the float where bacteria and mold can hide. This humidifier is louder than some of the other ultrasonic options but it isn't as loud as evaporative technology and few individuals will find it disruptive. While it has a higher than average price and isn't the most effective in the group, it is a good choice for families looking for a programmable option who may have a little more money to spend.

Our Analysis and Test Results

Guardian Technologies is a small appliance-based company focused on making lives happier and healthier. Their goal is making innovative products that facilitate healthier home environments. Guardian makes air purifiers, UV air sanitizers, humidifiers, essential oil diffusers and HEPA filters. While unrelated to their products, we love that the company website professes their love of furry family members with an office that is 100% dog-friendly.

Performance Comparison

The PureGuardian is an impressive ultrasonic humidifier that earned a second-place rank and an Editors' Choice award in our testing.

This unit has more bells and whistles than much of the competition and is a good choice for parents who want more than mist from their humidifier.

The PureGuardian has some smaller spaces near the float that could require a straw brush to get it completely clean.

Ease of Cleaning

This unit is fairly easy to clean earning a 7 of 10 for this metric.

This unit has a tank with a smaller opening making it hard to reach your hand inside. You'll need a bottle brush to clean the tank and mist tube, but the tube narrows near the bottom making it hard to squeeze the brush all the way to the bottom. There are some nooks that can be challenging to clean but overall it isn't too bad. The instructions seem less concerned about sterilization than some of the competition and we aren't sure if this is based on the materials of the humidifier or if they don't want to dwell on the downside of humidifier ownership.

The PureGuardian starts strong with significant mist output but drops somewhat in the long run resulting in an average humidity output over time.

Effectiveness

The PureGuardian is fairly effective with a strong start that increases the ambient humidity faster than the competition earning it a 7 of 10 in our tests.

At the one hour mark, this unit was able to create a more humid environment than much of the competition with only four competitors creating a more humid room than the Guardian. Overall, most families will find this product meets their needs.

Noise

The Pure Guardian is louder than the average unit with a score of 6 of 10 for this metric.

This unit registered 43 decibels compared to less than 40 for the quiet competition. It is important to keep in mind that this product is still relatively silent, it is only slightly louder than the rest of the group. It is not as loud as an evaporative humidifier that has a fan-driven technology and creates a significant amount of white noise.

The digital display on the PureGuardian is easy to see and the buttons are intuitive.

Ease of Use

The Pure Guardian is the second easiest option in the group with a 7 of 10 for ease of use.

This score is based in large part on the programmability of the humidifier and the easy to decipher user interface on the digital display. This product has an easy to read display with intuitive icons and buttons. It features a humidistat, run timer, auto shutoff, and a nightlight. This option does not have a filter.

The tank opening on the PureGuardian is large enough to be easy to fill but on the small side for hands when it's time to clean.

Th tank on the PureGuradian has a smaller opening you can't fit your hand in but is wide enough for filling. The tank doesn't have a handle and only stands so-so in the sink with the occasional support required to prevent it from tipping.
