Bottom Line
Philips is a well-known quality provider of baby products, and we generally find their products to be top performing. However, in this case, we were disappointed to find a bottle that finished in 12th place in our field of 17 finalists. While the Philips AVENT BPA-free bottle is durable, with an easy to use wide neck, but we found their bottle top system complicated to use and prone to leakage. Avent has tried to redeem their leaky-bottle-syndrome with the addition of an "adapter ring". IF you get it in properly, with the blue side DOWN, you just might have a leak-free experience. If not, you better have your burp cloth handy to soak up the mess.

BabyGearLab Editors' Hands-on Review

Our Avent bottle testing process started off with our bottle brush punching right through the nipple on the first washing! Maybe just a fluke…but still.

With a new nipple in one hand and a fussy baby in the other, trying to get that newly included "adapter ring" inserted properly was no easy task. However, we did like that once it was put together correctly, we had a sturdy bottle that didn't leak.

Correctly assembled, the adapter ring serves it's purpose. The nipple has a fairly broad base that we liked and overall, the bottle felt good in-hand. It's marked clearly on the outside and has a wide mouth, witch made filling and washing simple.

Dislikes
One of the worst scoring bottles in our leakage tests.

We found ourselves frustrated at spending too much time fidgeting with that adapter ring! We imagine this is a learning curve that you would move past fairly quickly. We'd definitely recommend referring to your user's manual.

In our test, the anti-colic claim didn't seem to matter.

Conclusion
Get comfortable with the adapter ring and you should have a decent bottle. However, we just don't see the point and stand by our winner, Tommee Tippee Closer to Nature.

AVENT GLASS Ok, I am actually quite disappointed in this review. It does not specify if reviewing classic or natural, (I assume classic as I never had to mess with the adaptor ring with the natural glass). I am also disappointed that the glass bottles were not the ones reviewed, especially as there are so few glass bottles available AND the review said it valued environmental impact and safety in materials for your baby (ie no plastic). I have used avent glass natural bottles, along with breastfeeding, since my son was 8 days old. I have not had to replace ANY parts, although I did go up a flow size when my son was about 8 months old. He is now 13 months, and starting this month, we only use them a few times a week if daddy is doing bedtime. Before this, it was 7-8 bottles a day, at least as I work 12 hour shifts four days a week. We have been very happy with the quality and durability of this product. He gets very little gas (might be the valve, might not). I have never had a leakage problem - the glass ones use the natural nipples and the extra ring is not needed. The glass is thick, has never cracked, and insulates nicely. When heating the milk, I actually warm the bottle with hot water first, and then add the milk and swirl itin a bowl of hot water from the sink. The heat from the glass helps to heat the liquid inside and I don't have to worry about any chemicals being leached into my baby. I also thinks it keeps it warmer longer. Couldn't be better!

Bottom Line: Yes, I would recommend this product to a friend.
